Scars from the past

Mission: Pixie Dust
Location: Medical Bay, Deck 2, S.S. Fawkes
Timeline: MD01 - Prior to the Turbulence
825 words - 1.7 OF Standard Post Measure

The large Caitian had been pacing in front of the door to Med Bay for some time now. Gathering courage, although he wasn't sure why he would need that for this. His tail swayed anxiously back and forth as he made another pass in front of the door. It was a stupid request. Maybe the physician would laugh at him. He wasn't even sure if the limited facilities on this boat would allow for the procedure to take place. Another pass in front of the doors.

The doors opened and Ami stood there. "Hey you coming in here or are you just trying to make shadow puppets?" She asked with a small smile.

M'erah stopped dead in his tracks and looked at the doctor in the doorway. There was no point in being indecisive anymore. "Any shadow puppet I make always looks like a trrribble." He showed his furry hands before reaching out a hand to introduce himself, "M'errrah, Able Deck Hand."

She smiled and shook it. "Ami." She said. She stepped back. "Come on in, and tell me what I can help you with."

M'erah resisted the urge to scratch the itch next to his scar. He stepped into the medical bay and looked around. It seemed in so much better shape than the rest of the vessel. "You rrreally cleaned up in herrre." He gave the woman a toothy grin.

The Medic nodded. "A medical bay should be neat and tidy. Shows professional attitudes." She figured he would get to the point soon enough.

"It's morrre difficult to keep the carrrgo spaces neat and tidy." M'erah wasn't sure why he was avoiding bringing up the topic. "So, you might have noticed I have this scarrr." The urge to scratch it became too much at the mention of it and it gently rubbed it with his hand. "I was wonderrring if therrre was anything you could do about it."

Gently Ami pulled his hand away and studied the scar. "Oh yes we can fix that. Won't take long. A couple of passes with a dermal regenerator should do the trick. When do you have 10 minutes spare?"

M'erah had come here at the end of his shift so he had all evening to get this fixed, "Ten minutes?" Until now he had held on to it for some emotional reason, he considered he wanted to be rid of it but now he wasn't sure if he wanted to be rid of it so quickly. "Makes you wonderrr why I haven't had it done beforrre." He smirked a toothy grin again as he touched the scar with his hand.

"Then come and sit down and let me fix you up" she smiled and waved to the bio bed.

"Do you have any scarrrs, doctorrr?" M'erah ventured into the room and sat himself down on the bio bed. He was rather long but most of that length was in his legs, so he didn't sit any taller than any other average humanoid, "I don't mean to prrry, of courrrse."

"no not visible scars. Everyone has internal scars though." Ami replied as she picked out the instruments she needed. Then she stepped up beside him, regenerator in hand. "It won't hurt. Only tingle ok?"

M'erah nodded, then remembered what it was she was going to fix and decided to keep his head perfectly still. He could feel the hairs in his neck and tail puff up. He was nervous, scared even perhaps, "It's stupid how we trrry to cling to the past by rrreminding ourselves thrrrough the worrrst possible keepsakes."

Ami nodded. "We would not be mortal if we didn't cling to the past." She ran the regenerator over the scar slowly, precisely.

M'erah suddenly realised something, "can you rrregenerrrate the hairrr in that spot?" his puffy neck and tail had subsided for the most part.

"It will grow back naturally in a couple of weeks," Ami smiled as the scar tissue began to vanish. "You won't need to worry."

"Probably looks weird." M'erah tried to look at the scar, but all that did was make him look cross-eyed. "Like a human without eyebrows." He gave a toothy grin, seemingly remembering someone or something as he said that.

"And believe me, we look weird without them." Ami quipped back. She put down the regenerator. "There you go. Its all healed."

M'erah reached up and touched the spot that previously had his scar, it was still bald, that was for sure. It would grow back in though, now that he had parted with the scar tissue on his face, "Thank you doctorrr, much apprrreciated." He slid himself off the biobed and looked at the doctor, 'If therrre's anything I can help you with, let me know."

"I will. You take care ok?" Ami smiled.
