Confusion In Engineering Bay

Posted on Thursday April 11th, 2019 @ 15:18 hours by Vysara Elani & Mayterial Droz & Samantha Jenkins

Mission: Pixie Dust
Location: Engineering
Timeline: MD02 - 40 minutes after impact
1273 words - 2.5 OF Standard Post Measure

"Get people out of level three, section seven of the starboard side. The failures are spreading and effecting more of the ship. Emergency bulkheads aren't isolating the problem. Has the Bridge given the evacuation order yet?"

Silence.

"What do you mean you don't know?"

Silence.

"Prophets damn it, check!"

Silence.

"I'm busy trying to keep the ship level so we can at least try to make some sort of landing when we lose level and get pulled to the surface by the planet's gravity!" The conversation echoed the halls of the engineering bay.

Running in the engineering bay with her hand in her hair to put it in a tail Samantha immediately worried at hearing someone shout and not knowing what exactly was going on. "What is going on? Are you ok?"

The bajoran seemed not to hear her.

"M'errrah rrreporting in." The large Caitian stepped into the room and looked at Samantha, the scar over his eye gone but still a patch of bare skin visible in the place it used to be. "What's going on?"

Arriving last in the bay James needed a few second to grasps what was happening. He looked from one woman to the others. "What do you need me to do?" he asked Sam.

The bajoran rounded a console and darted off towards one of the back sections, "Tovah, Schultz lock down the whole section and be prepared to evacuate to the escape pods." She reached for someone's arm, someone only she could see.

M'erah looked over at Samantha with a quizzical look on his face, he knew the deck hands on this ship, none of them were called that, "Ehm?" He didn't really know what to do with their Engineer. He stepped up to the console and started to put in commands, requesting a system's diagnostics and a review of what happened over the past hours, "Rrrunning shipwide diagnostics."

The diagnostics were definitely not showing a loss of altitude control, nor a failing starboard engine. Something had stalled the engines however, but it was not a gravitational pull of a planet.

"James, M'erah, find out why the engines were stalled." Sam said as she approached Vysara, who was still going from one place to another. "Vysara!" she said, but wasn't heard. Something wasn't right here. "Vysara?" she tried again.

Someone was yelling, she could tell. But she couldn't make out the words. The bajoran stopped momentarily, listening for the odd sound amid the alarming and sounds of failing components of a dying ship. Vysara stumbled back as she lost her footing, the ship's inertia dampeners failing. "Alright, everyone out! Come on, get to the escape pods!" She got to her feet and started waving everyone out.

M'erah cocked his ungrown eyebrow at the sudden outburst from the new Engineer, "Ehm, Bosun, ma'am. These diagnostics aren't showing anything wrong. We got pushed out of subspace, gave a real kick, but no actual permanent damage was sustained." He looked between the Engineer and the Boatswain and wondered what to do with the Bajoran, "Sorry to ask, but are we sure she's qualified as an Engineer, ma'am."

Having a feeling there was something going on with Vysara instead the ship, she grabbed her by the shoulders to stop her from what she was doing. "Yes, under normal circumstances she is a great engineer," Sam said with a slight chuckle. "Get the doctor down here," she ordered James. Saying to M'erah "establish contact with the bridge, I have a feeling this is all a false alarm." She moved Vysara to a near by bench. "Here, sit down. Everything is being taken care of." she said, hoping she wouldn't struggle to much while they waited for the doctor.

A voice was talking, and she felt movement under her feet, but she couldn't understand it. Elani looked in the direction of the voice, confused. "I can hear you, but I can't make out what you're saying, the claxons and the alarms are making it difficult," she said finally.

Sam though for a moment how to make Vysara know everything was ok without speech. After sitting her down and sitting besides her Sam took Vysara's hand in her and made simple consoling movements with her thumbs over the engineers hands. "Just calm down," she said on a calm voice, hoping it would calm the woman down.

This however caused the bajoran to pull her hand back sharply, rubbing it. That console just had an electrical surge. Why? Vysara stood up and tapped on it. At least she thought she did. To an outsider, it looked as if she was tapping on air. "I don't understand...." she muttered.

"Therrre arrre no alarms." M'erah looked around to both Sam and James, then at the woman operating a console that wasn't there. "Tell herrr to switch off the alerrrts. Maybe she'll hearrr us then?" He sniffed a bit, there was something in the air that was causing his hairs in his neck to stand up.

Suddenly, Vysara looked to her right, her eyes widening and she paled. "Oh Prophets help us, we've lost elevation....we're going down." A look of horror passed across her face, pure, unabashed horror at the reality of her situation. Then however, she cocked her head a little, blinked and looked directly at Sam, eyes wide. "This isn't right. You..." she pointed at Jenkins, then realized several others were there who weren't supposed to be there. "You're not supposed to be here. You're not members of the crew. Who are you?"

Then the bajoran gasped. "Are you responsible for the Syracuse's failures? You realize you're trapped here with us and we're going to crash on that planet!?" She pointed in the direction she'd looked in moments before.

"You're not on the Syracuse." Sam started explaining, although she was getting the feeling it was useless. "This is the Fawkes."

Vysara blinked, "no, this is quite clearly the S.S. Syracuse and that planet below..." she pointed out the non-existant window again, "is Tigan Seven. Who the kosst are you?"

Then a sense of familiarity hit her. "Are you from the Celestial Temple? Am I having a vision? Is this a warning?"

"I'm Samantha. I wouldn't be surprised if you are having a vision." Sam said.

The Prophets didn't tell you were having a vision. At least Vysara thought so. They would impart their message and leave you to it. At least that was what she'd heard all these years. So why...

She felt the deck platings shift under her feet, yet nothing else moved and the image around her flickered. The people in Engineering were frozen still. What was going on?

"See, my problem is, the people around you are frozen still, yet I feel the deckplating moving and I know this ship is going to crash, because I saw the wreckage and I sifted through it, trying to piece together what happened." Elani's eyes widened. "That's why things are frozen...the black box stopped there...we were unable to recover the data so we could only guess at what happened. But why am I seeing this then? What's going on?"

"Perrrhaps we should get you to the medical bay." M'erah suggested trying to be helpful. It would seem there wasn't a great Engineering failure going on so they could keep it all running without the main Engineer present for a bit, "Don't Worrry, We've got everrrything underrr contrrrol herrre."

Elani looked over at everyone, then slowly nodded. "Alright, I think that may be best."
