Putting the Missing Pieces Together

Mission: Pixie Dust
Location: Medical Bay
Timeline: MD-02, 0430 hours
1832 words - 3.7 OF Standard Post Measure

The comm system came online again in the medical bay, and once more Mayterial's voice rung through the air, =A= "This is the Captain to Medical. You have an injury incoming, possible head wound. It's Ares Onasis." =A= The channel closed abruptly after that.

Ami bit back a groan. Of all people. The one person she had met who acted like she hated everything. Well she was a medic and it was her job. She could not acknowledge the call as the channel was closed.

“Doctor! I need a doctor!” Colt called out as he practically dragged the dazed Ares into the Medical bay. She was still talking to herself, talking about where she was supposedly getting married and where she and this man Adam were going to live… It worried him because it seemed like she was in her own little dream world. And that world involved someone who wasn’t him. He had become fond of the woman, even through their brief time together, surprising even himself that he had actually become attached to someone. If something was wrong with her he wanted it taken care of before it was too late.

Ami came over and snagged Ares' free arm. "What happened" she said to Colt as she helped get Ares onto a bio bed. This was going to be interesting.

Colt kept his arm around Ares’s waist, stroking her hair to try to remind her of the real world. And possibly bring some comfort. “She must’ve hit her head or something. I found her crying in the Mess Hall, was talking to herself..”

Ares looked up at Colt, placing her hand against his cheek softly. “My parents hope our children look more like me than you, Adam. But I surely disagree…” Her voice was loopy and dazed as she saw Adam’s warm face smile as he let out a soft chuckle and gave her a gentle kiss on her lips.

Colt, still feeling taken aback from her surprising, but not unwarranted, affections, looked back at Ami with slightly widened eyes and an amused smirk on his lips. He was under immense stress from the worry and resorted to a small joke to keep himself focused. “My name isn’t Adam.” He looked back down at Ares, feeling her soft curly hair in his palm, then back at the doctor. “She’s not really responding to me or anything… her eyes are pretty dilated but I don’t think…” he cut himself off, not wanting to try to diagnose in front of a doctor. He also couldn’t get himself to say the words. The thought of Ares using recreational drugs and tainting her perfect body made Colt's stomach twist up in disgust.

Ami nodded and considered her options. "Well we can't have her stripping naked for every guy she sees. Help me strap her down and pray she isn't into that sort of thing." She helped Colt manhandle Ares onto a bio bed and began to strap her down. "I might have to sedate her." Ami muttered as she worked.

Colt furrowed her eyebrows as he helped lift Ares onto the biobed. "Look, she's not violent or anything. In fact, she's the opposite. Though I do believe it may get to the point of her and this Adam guy, ummm..." his lip tilted up awkwardly, "copulating."

"TMI" muttered Ami. "Look if she is strapped down, at least I know where she is and she isnt going to be out there trying to sleep with every single male she finds, yourself included."

Colt paused at the jolt of her suggestion. Every single male she finds… The words echoed in act’s head as he watched the doctor begin her preparations. “You know, that actually may not be that bad of an idea.” He looked down at Ares and continued to stroke her hair. “Where are you, sweetheart?” He whispered soothingly to her. “What’s going on inside of that head of yours?”

Ares’s eyes twinkled in the setting Greek sun as Adam tightened his grip around her waist. After they finished their dinner and her parents went home to give the love birds some time alone, Adam brought her down to the empty beach where there was a blanket laid out ready for them with something else on top of it. A gift?

Ares looked up at Adam with a look of astonishment and wonder at what he had brought her from back home. She was just lucky to have him back with her. “You didn’t have to get me anything, Adam…”

Adam shushed her as he pulled her down to the blanket and handed her a guitar. It was the same guitar Ares had sold to get her ticket to the star base where she got the Fawkes job. And without warning an overwhelming flood of emotions poured out of the woman once again as she began sobbing uncontrollably with joy and appreciation for the second chance she had been given to live the life she always wanted.

“Oh, Jesus,” Colt knelt down next to the biobed, feeling his chest tightening at the sight and sound of Ares crying. He tried to wipe off the tears that were pouring down her cheek. She didn’t even react to his touch.

Ami finished strapping Ares's down, covered her with a blanket and went around to check on the man who had brought her in. She knelt beside him. "Are you ok?"

Colt turned his head to Ami, his eyebrows slightly furrowed. “Who? Me?” He then looked down at the placement of his hand against Ares’s soft dewy skin. This woman had him under a spell. He was a caring person, finding empathy towards people who had been tossed aside by society, but he always kept a certain level of strength and mystery that kept him separated on an emotional level. And here he was, kneeling down next to a complete stranger’s biobed, caressing her cheek with his thumb. He just as quickly dropped his thumb and stood up, trying to play off his sudden romantic gesture. “Yeah, I’m good,” he coughed awkwardly, looking around the room. “Mind if I grab some water or something?” He felt his cheeks warm up for being so obvious to the doctor. He tried to wipe his suddenly sweaty palms against his slightly baggy tan pants and white fitted t-shirt.

"Sure, there is a replicator over there, near that table." Ami pointed and turned back to her patient.

Giving the doctor a nod in gratitude and embarrassment, Colt made his way over to the replicator. His skin began feeling warm, as if he was standing directly in a sun’s path. He looked up and confirmed that he was still in the Infirmary in the middle of space. As he got closer to the replicator the invisible sun became more intense. Perspiration began beading across his forehead as it felt like he had climbed to the top of the highest mountain on Vulcan. He looked around at the others; no change in their behavior. It was business as usual. What the hell is going on with me?!, he thought to himself as he looked down at his hands dripping with sweat. He was going to need more than just a glass of water. “Replicator,” he breathed out heavily as the hot air felt heavier around him, “a gallon jug of water…” He turned to looked at Ami. “Did you turn up the heat in here or something?” He grabbed the jug and began drinking out of it.

It wasn’t helping. His skin still ached and burned from the immense heat being shone upon him. Out of desperation he began pouring the water onto his arms and his chest, drenching his white shirt.

Then... it happened...

Ares's lips curled up into a smile as her unfocused eyes remained on the ceiling of the Infirmary. Back in Greece, she was strumming the freshly tuned strings of her old-yet-new guitar, her tears finally dried up after Adam kissed them away. The waves continued to crash gently against the sand about 50 yards further down from them. It was the perfect setting: the full moon looked like it was shining only for them, magnified to represent the love they had for each other. Ares's eyes met with Adam's and a chill shot up her spine. He was looking at her like he did that day they first met, as if she was the only person in the entire universe that mattered to him. His lips were tilted up into that goofy boyish grin as he continued to stare at her. And, in pure Ares fashion, she always found a way to poke fun at him for it.

"Take a picture, it'll last longer," Ares stuck her tongue out playfully at him as she began strumming the opening riff to one of their favorite old songs. She had played it for him as a joke during one of their first dates, but it stuck with them, and always set a proper mood for the couple. Giving him a wink, Ares's melodic and sensual voice filled the air between them as Adam leaned back to watch his woman do her thing and turn him the hell on.

"Love is like a bomb, baby, c'mon get it on
Livin' like a lover with a radar phone
Lookin' like a tramp, like a video vamp
Demolition woman, can I be your man?

Colt's cheeks flushed with embarrassment as his mind immediately recognized the song. It was quite a popular song in his club for obvious reasons and here Ares was, singing the words with an insanely beautiful voice. She just couldn't stop surprising him. But this song wasn't for him. It was for someone else.

It was actually making him jealous. Colt McCormick, Ladies' Man and debonair through and through, was jealous of an imaginary person. He was fortunately able to mask his true reasoning for being there for a woman he had met only that morning. He needed to save her. Her mind, her dream, her whatever this was, was pulling her deeper and deeper and he was afraid he wouldn't be able to bring her back to their reality. Instead of sinking back down to the floor in frustration and desperation, Colt moved his hands to her arm, wrapping them around to remind her that he was actually there.

And he sang with her.

"So c'mon, take a bottle, shake it up
Break the bubble, break it up
Pour some sugar on me
Ooh, in the name of love
Pour some sugar on me
C'mon, fire me up
Pour your sugar on me
I can't get enough...
